My favourite form of architecture.
Loads more needs to be done to stop buildings being knocked down however.
Robin Hood Gardens should not be demolished.

The only advantage of Brutalism is that if you live in an example surrounded by non-Brutalist architecture, you can live a life filled with the Freude of Schaden.

Back in the 90's I owned a flat in Sivill House on Columbia Road overlooking the flower market. It was designed by the chap who designed the old penguin house at London Zoo But that was Constructivist architecture.

Not really a fan but I suppose it has it's place.
I visited Cumbrnauld where I saw this monster.

I would absolutely hate to live somewhere like that, it's no wonder most of the population was pissed or on heroin.
It was a profoundly depressing place.

Nurse - I have moved out, thank you, leafy Cheshire at present. It genuinely had never occurred to me until this thread , why, when asked the old question of what your ideal job would be, I've always answered 'architect'; without really being able to articulate as to where that attraction originated.

There are many many building styles worse than brutalism. Bricked terraced houses with their wheelie bins outside are the real brutes.
I saw about a girl in Trellick Tower once. Tfr

looking at the RENDERS from the 60s, you can almost understand the existence of Basildon.

Brooke House in Basildon always freaked me out...

In fact Basildon town centre is probably why I grew up with a fascination for it all.

I love it.
Probably because a lot of '70s Sci-fi or dystopian future films were made with that sort of architecture as a backdrop.
Let's not forget Thamesmead too where some of Clockwork Orange and more recently Misfits was filmed.
